Denham Springs Bass Pro Shops reopens in aftermath of Louisiana floods

Limited hours and extended event as Outdoor World continues to be a staging point for flood-relief efforts

DENHAM SPRINGS, La. – Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World in Denham Springs, Louisiana re-opened Monday, August 22, 10 days after devastating flooding in Louisiana forced the location to close. Bass Pro Shops is located near Baton Rouge, one of the areas severely impacted by the historic flooding in south Louisiana where more than 30 percent of homes are estimated to be flooded.

Outdoor World is offering limited hours this week Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM. Denham Springs Bass Pro Shops Manager Seth Theriot said Bass Pro Shops will continue to assess associate needs on an on-going basis to determine when they can expand the location’s hours. Additionally, Bass Pro Shops is extending the Fall Hunting Classic through September 5 at the Denham Springs location only. One of the most popular events of the year, the Fall Classic includes free seminars, demonstrations and special offers for families and outdoor enthusiasts.

“This community is comprised of many hard-working, dedicated people that believe in helping others,” said Theriot. “We are very appreciative of the assistance from so many people and organizations during this very trying time including the City of Denham Springs, local community leaders, the fire department and emergency rescue and especially Sheriff Jason Ard. And, I want to give a special thank you to all the Bass Pro Shops team members dedicated to getting this store back and operating for the community.”

Several Bass Pro Shops associates were heavily impacted in the flooding, but the team came together to assist the many disaster-response organizations with their flood recovery efforts. Upon learning about the region’s devastation, Bass Pro Shops immediately began working with Theriot to support the associates and community. The following action plan was put in motion:

The company partnered with Convoy of Hope, an international disaster response organization, to provide immediate relief to the flood-stricken areas. As a longtime supporter Bass Pro Shops contributions helped enable Convoy to send 20 truckloads to the region. Plus, Convoy of Hope will use the Denham Springs parking lot as a distribution point for supplies and volunteers.

  • Bass Pro Shops donated nearly $15,000 worth of Uncle Buck’s Premium Jerky and peanuts since protein-rich foods were identified as a key need.
  • The National Guard used the Denham Springs parking lot Wednesday through Sunday to pass out MRE’s and water to more than 12,000 people.
  • FEMA is currently on site at Bass Pro Shops Denham Springs as a check-in point for claims and information.
  • Impacted associates from the Denham Springs Bass Pro Shops location can apply to receive assistance from the company’s Bass Pro Cares Fund-an avenue for associates to apply for temporary relief for critical living expenses in times of devastating need.

“Words cannot express the amount of resilience that the Bass Pro Shops team and this community has,” said Theriot. “We will rebuild, restore; we are family. We are ‘Louisiana strong.'”
