
Golf elite set to compete in star-studded affair during Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf at Big Cedar Lodge
The Legends are coming back to the Ozarks in what is sure to be a tournament to remember. Competition commences on Friday, April 21 at Big Cedar Lodge for the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf, and welcomes a field of competitors that includes Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Lee Trevino and a cavalcade of golf royalty.
The distinguished group will play rounds at Top of the Rock Ozarks Heritage Preserve, the only Par-3 course to host a PGA TOUR tournament, and Buffalo Ridge Springs, recently named the number one ranked public golf course in the state of Missouri by Golf Magazine. 2017 marks the 40th anniversary of Legends of Golf and the fourth year that Big Cedar Lodge has played host.
PGA TOUR Champions participants will play 54 holes at the Legends of Golf, and the field includes notable newcomers John Daly, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Jose Maria Olazabal, along with fan favorites Tom Watson and Fred Couples. The Legends Tour will crown a champion after 36 holes, making way for a special Sunday Skins match between greats Nicklaus, Player, Trevino and a few special guests.
Collectively, competitors in the 2017 Legends of Golf have a laundry list of remarkable accomplishments, including:
- 86 major championship wins on the PGA TOUR
- 80 major titles on PGA TOUR Champions
- 16 current World Golf Hall of Fame members with two set to be inducted later this year (Love III, Woosnam)
- 778 PGA TOUR titles and 549 PGA TOUR Champions victories
- Nine players in the field have served as captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team and two have been captains of the European squad
- Five players have been captains or will captain the U.S. Presidents Cup team, while two others led the International team
